Surge Protection

Surge Arrestor installation of Type 1Surge Arrestor installation of Type 2Example of a surge arrestor installation. As you can see this is a retrofit which is due to changes in BS EN 62305.

Without the surge protection, a company can quickly roll out of play. The effects of a thunderstorm can paralyse electrical systems. Consequently, customers of an affected company cannot be served for a long period of time. Therefore the most important consequence is to prevent damage caused by surge, by means of Surge Protection.

Surge Protection by definition is the principle to maintain insulation up to a maximum admissible voltage level. Once this level is exceeded, the surge voltage is short-circuited, in other words, the excessively high potential difference between two conductive parts of a device or equipment is limited to admissible values.
